"Study & Research in Portugal" at NAFSA 2017

Portuguese Higher Education and Research present at the largest international US education fair

From May 30 to June 2, 2017, Portugal had the largest representation ever at NAFSA - Association of International Educators, in Los Angeles, United States of America.

The NAFSA Fair / Conference is the major international gathering of those responsible for the internationalization of higher education and research institutions and attracts annually more than 10,000 visitors from around the world.

At the "Study & Research in Portugal" pavilion, organized by the Fulbright Commission and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education and with the support of the American Embassy in Lisbon participated 19 institutions, including universities, polytechnics and city councils.

This participation was an important opportunity to show the diversity and quality of each institution's offer and to reinforce the visibility of Portugal as a destination country for international students and researchers, particularly from the United States.

The "Study & Research in Portugal" initiative integrates the Government's commitment, through the Resolution No. 78/2016 of the Council of Ministers, which defines guidelines for the articulation of the policy of internationalization of higher education and science and technology, regarding the advancement of public policies based on the enhancement of knowledge and the qualification of human resources, recognizing higher education and science institutions as spaces for creation and knowledge sharing that promote openness to novelty, stimulate innovation and contribute to the development of society, culture and Portuguese economy.

“Study & Research in Portugal” is a fundamental instrument for the promotion and internationalization of the country, in areas such as scientific diplomacy, tourism, mobility, economy, heritage, language and culture.

The Fulbright Commission, created by the Portuguese Government and the Government of the United States of America, administers the Fulbright Program for Educational Exchange in Portugal with the mission of fostering mutual understanding between Portugal and the United States. Its activities include providing exchange opportunities for scholars, researchers and students, based on merit; offer of quality guidance and information on the education systems of the two countries; and the organization of initiatives that promote knowledge sharing.
