On the 30th of November general guidelines for the internationalization policy of higher education and science and technology were published in the official journal (Council of Ministers Resolution nº78/2016). In this context, the guidelines aim to enhance: (i) the process of internationalization of higher education and of scientific and technological research in Portugal; (ii) science and higher education in the cooperation with third countries; (iii) international cooperation in science and technology; (iv) the relationship with academic and scientific Portuguese communities abroad; and (v) the promotion of scientific diplomacy.
Regarding higher education we highlight the support to the promotion and dissemination of Portuguese higher education, institutions and national educational offer, which should be done, among others, through the study in Portugal initiative. The Council of Ministers Resolution also establishes the role that DGES will have in the development of this policy.
