Crediting

Higher education institutions may credit previously obtained training and professional experience, in the following situations and within the limits indicated:
 
1 - Training carried out in other higher education cycles, in national or foreign higher education establishments, and whether it was obtained before or after the organization resulting from the Bologna Process.
 
2 - Training carried out in the professional higher technical courses, up to 50% of the total credits of the study cycle.
 
3 - Curricular units carried out separately, up to the limit of 50% of the total credits of the study cycle.
 
4 - Training carried out in non-degree courses in higher education institutions, up to 50% of total credits in the study cycle.
 
5 - Training carried out in technological specialization courses, up to 1/3 of the total credits of the study cycle.
 
6 - Other training, up to 1/3 of the total credits of the study cycle.
 
7 - Duly proven professional experience, up to 1/3 of the total credits of the study cycle.
 
All credits allocated under paragraphs 4, 5, 6 and 7 may not exceed 2/3 of the total credits in the study cycle.
 
In the study cycles leading to the Mestre and Doutor degrees, the crediting limits indicated refer respectively to the mestrado cours or doutoramento course. Example: in a Mestrado program with 120 ECTS credits, of which 60 are related to the course and the remaining 60 to the dissertation, the training carried out, for example, in a non-degree course in an institution of higher education can only be credited until limit of 50% of the 60 ECTS credits of the course, that is, up to 30 ECTS credits.
 
The possibility of crediting only exists for the purpose of pursuing studies to obtain an academic degree and only takes effect after admission to a higher education cycle, with the entry, of course, being made through one of the applicable legal regimes, subject the respective regulatory standards and the limit of vacancies established.
 
The accreditation process is subject to regulation approved by the competent bodies of higher education institutions, and the intervention of the scientific or technical-scientific council in this process is mandatory.
